Black Book is a handy phone book type application designed to put your most commonly used names and addresses at you fingertips. It was designed with ease of use and maximum efficiency in mind. It should be fairly straightforward to use, but a few features warrant some mild explanation. Of course, balloon help is provided to answer most of these questions, but who ever uses that feature anyway?
Using Black Book
Adding Records: Black Book was designed to allow you to create new records easily by hand. However, there is an import feature. Unfortunately, this only imports records from an old utility called FoneMate. See caveats for more details regarding importing records.
Editting Records: Double clicking a list item, using the Edit Record item from the Record menu, or hitting return will all allow you to edit the currently selected record.
Deleting Records: Deleting the currently selected record is accomplished using the Delete Record item in the Record menu, the Delete button, or the Delete key. This action cannot be undone.
Finding Records: Typing the beginning few letters of a name in list will automatically select that item and display any information in that record. A more comprehensive find feature is available from the Record Menu as Find. This allows you to search the name field for the text you specify. In addition, Find Next, also in the Record Menu, will find the next record in the list matching the search criteria.
Import: This function will indiscriminantly add records stored in several file formats, including Claris Emailer addressbooks, FoneMate applications, and tab separated text files.
Merge: This is sort of a "smart" version of Import. It checks the import record against current entries and only adds it if the name field does not match any current entry.
Export: This function will save the current book as a tab separated text file that can be read by a number of applications, including FileMaker Pro.

Caveats
Below is a list of features that will be implemented in the near future, in an attempt to make Black Book even more versatile.
• Import- other formats, like Eudora, Netscape, etc. Feel free to request a format.
• Export- export to HTML table (everyone wants stuff on the web, right?)
• OS 8- support the new OS 8 interface fully
